Marsh Award for Public Sculpture

CAMBRIDGE SCULPTURE SHORTLISTED FOR MAJOR PRIZE

The new sculpture of the 'Young Charles Darwin', in the Darwin Garden, Christ's College Cambridge, has been shortlisted for the Marsh Sculpture Prize; an award for the best public sculpture of the year. Designed by the sculptor Anthony Smith, the sculpture depicts a youthful Darwin sitting on the arm of a bench.

The Marsh Prize is now in its fifth year, and this years judges are Zuleika Dobson, former Director of the Camden Art Centre in London; Michael Paraskos, Research Fellow at Harlow Art Trust; Ian Leith of English Heritage; David Charlesworth of the Marsh Christian Trust; Sue Ridge of Chelsea College of Art; and Jo Darke of the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association (PMSA).

The judges' decision will be announced in November 2009 at a lavish prize ceremony at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, attended by HRH the Duke of Gloucester.
