An elephant experiences much of the world through its trunk. They have relatively poor eye sight and rely mainly on their sense of smell to locate food and detect potential dangers. The trunk is also used for touching, carrying, feeding, drinking and even washing themselves. As well a remarkable organ belonging to a remarkable animal the trunk is a very beautiful structure in its own right and that is what I have focused on here. It has a great sculptural quality and wonderful surface texture that make for a very interesting piece.
